Mario Nisbett completed a B.A. in Social Sciences at the University of the Virgin Islands, M.A. in African Diaspora History at Morgan State University, and M.A. and Ph.D. in African and African Diaspora Studies at University of California, Berkeley. He is currently a Lecturer at the Centre for African and International Studies at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He has lectured at the Community College of Baltimore County, Clark University, Susquehanna University, and Florida International University as well as worked with universities in Jamaica and Kenya. He has researched, taught and written in the areas of African/African diaspora histories, diaspora theory, Pan-Africanism, and slavery & resistance. His research interest also includes interdisciplinarity, critical epistemology, sovereignty, Maroon studies, African post-development, Africana political thought and African political economy. He has few publications including a piece titled “African Diasporic Traditional Symbols and Claims” in Symbolism. He is currently under contract to publish African Sovereigns: Jamaican Maroons and the Significance of Diasporic Connections at Lexington Books.
